Smokin' Aces review

Posted : 16 years, 9 months ago on 17 July 2007 04:44 (A review of Smokin' Aces)

I didn't really feel anything with this movie. Nothing bad, nothing good. Sure there was plenty of action and plenty of stars but that doesn't mean it's going to be a good movie. Seeing as I feel completely indifferent to this movie it's hard to say if it was bad or not. You just have to watch it to make up your own mind.

The Warrior review

Posted : 16 years, 9 months ago on 14 July 2007 07:21 (A review of The Warrior)

Unfortunately I couldn't watch the whole movie. I think when a movie is that long (almost 3 hours) it should be a very engaging movie so you have a good reason for sitting around for such a long time. This movie just wasn't engaging enough for me. I made it just shy of the 2 hour mark before I started to get bored so that's something, I guess

Why? Why? Why?

Posted : 16 years, 9 months ago on 13 July 2007 06:15 (A review of Cube)

This could've gotten a higher rating from me but it didn't because I never found out the why. I like to, nay have to, find out why. I find it frustrating. Although I realise that was the whole point, but still...

Great concept though and it's quite interesting to watch how the different characters react and interact.

I want the slugs!

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 10 July 2007 06:48 (A review of Flushed Away)

This is my new favourite animation. It's funny right from the word go (the slugs are the best), the storyline works out really well and it's far better then the latest animations that have been going. Barnyard & Madagascar for examples. It reminds me of a cross between Shrek (obviously because the same people who created Shrek created this one too) and Wallace & Gromit.
And it really is a fluke that I got to watch it because I hadn't even heard of it before (they had it playing at the video shop)! I think a lot of people are going to miss out on this one which is a shame because it is really enjoyable.

Apocalypto (2006) review

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 10 July 2007 06:28 (A review of Apocalypto (2006))

I was a bit surprised with this film. Not in the sense that I thought it would be horrible and found out it was stunning instead. No. I was surprised because I thought it would be far more violent. I'd heard from several places/people that it was a very violent film. I didn't find it that violent. In saying that, if you aren't used to violence I wouldn't recommend watching it while eating, it's just for someone who is used to watching violent films I was expecting to cringe.

Not that any of that is a bad thing. The movie was actually stunning. I'm so glad I watched it seeing as I wasn't going to (it's an anti Mel Gibson thing). The casting was perfection, the costumes were awesome and the cinematography was fantastic. I just feel sad for all the people who can't handle subtitles and are going to miss out on an amazing film!

I Feel Cheated

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 6 July 2007 11:29 (A review of Story of O part II)

I wasn't impressed with this. Don't get me wrong, it's not that it was a bad read. Quite the opposite actually, I think I enjoyed it more then the first one! The thing is though, and the reason why I have given it a lower rating then the first book, in my opinion it ended abruptly. It also felt rushed. Granted it was a fairly short novel (being less then 200 pages), but a story can be short without feeling rushed. It seems as if Reage was trying to get it over and done with and now I'm left feeling at a loss and wondering, what happens next?

Prozac Nation review

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 6 July 2007 05:13 (A review of Prozac Nation)

I thought this was a beautiful movie. Harrowing but beautiful. For someone who has suffered through depression the portrayal of it was spot on and Christina Ricci did a marvelous performance

Story of O review

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 5 July 2007 05:25 (A review of Story of O)

I found this at times hard to follow and absorb. It may very well be because I was reading an English translation which would be a shame because some of the descriptions were a tad confusing. Other then that it was good reading. Although for a sadomasochistic novel I didn't find this had a sexual element at all. Not in the slightest. Forthright, yes (which I'm sure contributed to it's controversial fame when first published - 1950's) but not sexual. I found it to be almost innocent and more psychological then anything else but maybe that's just how I see things!
A classic though? I would say so.

The 13 Original Clan Mothers: Your Sacred Path to Discovering the Gifts, Talents, and Abilities of the Feminine Through the Ancient Teachings of the Sisterhood review

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 29 June 2007 06:31 (A review of The 13 Original Clan Mothers: Your Sacred Path to Discovering the Gifts, Talents, and Abilities of the Feminine Through the Ancient Teachings of the Sisterhood )

I would recommend this book to any woman who is on a path of either spirituality, healing, growth or all of those things and wants to embrace the Feminine.
I would also recommend this if it's someones first endeavour into reading a spiritual book because it isn't a 'heavy' book. It's quite easy to digest what with an explanation of each of the 13 Clan Mothers and then a story to accompany the explanations, which if you read between the lines rather then take it at face value, will impart a fair few moral lessons.

Papillon review

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 29 June 2007 06:22 (A review of Papillon)

This was actually far better then I thought it would be. Great acting by Steve McQueen who played such a tireless character, especially when it came to the solitary part of the movie.
This is a definite classic.
