I was actually surprised by this one. I was expecting it to be an absolute piece of crap but it really wasn't as pathetic as some people led me to believe. Perhaps I didn't find it as bad as I thought it would be as I'd watched it with very low expectations.
I was able to tell that this was Kurt Wimmer's work because there were similarities to Equilibrium but unlike Equilibrium, Ultraviolet didn't have me enthralled. In fact I felt nothing during the movie and was left with nothing after it had finished. There were some cool moves though but there was also a lot of sweeping shots of Milla Jovovich's abdomen. It's safe to say I can recall what her belly button looks like...
Ok

This Won An Academy Award?
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 31 May 2007 04:49 (A review of Million Dollar Baby)I don't know if it's just because I don't like boxing or because the movie was crap (I'm going for crap) but I was bored with this pathetic attempt right from the word go. I realise that a Clint Eastwood film isn't worth watching but I wanted to know what everyone was on about. Obviously I am a sucker for punishment.
I knew it was a bad idea as soon as I started to hear Morgan Freeman's raspy voice narrating and then add Eastwood's even raspier voice and I had great difficulty understanding anything these people were on about! It's what I imagine it would be like for a semi deaf person being stuck in a room with people who mumble.
What could've been done in an hour and half was drawn out for over 2 hours. Really drawn out as if trying to force feeling from the viewer by driving them mad. It did succeed. In driving me mad that is. I'd love to take the dvd and burn it, but a piece of tripe like that doesn't deserve my energy.

It's Perving Time
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 30 May 2007 05:26 (A review of Entrapment)I only recommend this for people who want to perve on Catherine Zeta-Jones because that's what the movie is basically built around. Her butt...
Sean Connery could do with much better roles then the one he has in this 'film'. I've only given it 4 stars because of Catherine Zeta-Jones herself, not because there was anything good about the film.

The Story of the Weeping Camel review
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 29 May 2007 10:04 (A review of The Story of the Weeping Camel)A gorgeous little story and beautiful people but I'd only recommend it for documentary buffs. Anyone else might find it unbearingly boring mainly because there is not much dialogue (everything said wasn't translated) and that it is pretty much a documentary. It's possible that arthouse buffs would appreciate it also.

As Good As I Thought It Would Be
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 28 May 2007 10:20 (A review of Blood Diamond)Great movie and superb acting especially from Djimon Hounsou although for me I don't believe Leonardo DiCaprio was exactly up to par, sometimes his accent was just all over the place but I found the movie good enough for me to look past that. Maybe a bit too long for my liking but personally it didn't take away from the film and I do highly recommend it.

Movies were so cute back then
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 23 May 2007 11:07 (A review of The Blob)I recommend just watching this for the experience. What was surely considered to be a scary movie back in the 1950's is in this day and age quite amusing but nevertheless still very entertaining. It may have been predictable but the acting was pretty good even if the teenagers were played by full grown adults (Steve McQueen's character looked the same age as the police officers) and some of the emotion definitely got across. The blob itself is quite entertaining with the movement they put into it and I actually found the way they did the ending, suggesting there may be a sequel, very amusing too.

Oh What A Shocker
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 20 May 2007 07:56 (A review of Leprechaun 4: In Space)A classic example of the absolute crap they will play late at night on telly. After watching this for an hour I have no idea what compelled me to watch it for that long. Honestly, it's like watching something that you want to look away from but you just can't no matter how hard you try. The Leprechaun, which I suppose was meant to inspire fear in viewers, was just laughable. Was his 'wit' and his 'powers' (his powers being that he could make anything disappear or appear etc) meant to make us fear him? Oh I'm quivering in my boots. Ahem... I'm being sarcastic obviously.
You'd think that after a team of space marines 'kill' this leprechaun on some planet they were exploring and then he regenerates himself on their ship (from the groin of one of the men) that they'd realise "Oh guns and grenades can't kill him". Needless to say they were that dumb.
The dialogue was hilarious and the acting was just atrocious.
Definitely one of those garish 'horrors' that could pass as low brow comedy.
Needless to say I didn't see the end and I'm not sad about that.

Fantastic, just fantastic...
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 18 May 2007 06:18 (A review of Kandahar (The Sun Behind the Moon))Such a great movie. In my opinion one of those ones that everyone should watch. Well everyone in the western world anyway. It follows the path of a woman struggling to be with her sister. It gives some insight into what sort of world these people are living in and the hardships they face. Not only that but also the oppression the women face and just how dangerous it is for them. It's one of those movies I won't forget and it honestly left me speechless.

Hmm...
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 9 May 2007 08:42 (A review of Shurayukihime)This movie seemed a little flat to me. Although the ending wasn't uneventful it still didn't seem to build up to anything so by the time the ending came around it also felt 'flat'. For me it didn't evoke any emotion and that wasn't because the main character was emotionless for most of the movie either.
The fight scenes were pretty good though and had some slightly cringe worthy moments, ie the 'blade in the hand', but that was pretty much the most eventful part of the whole movie.

Even I Can Act Better Then That
Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 4 May 2007 09:34 (A review of Smile)This movie was a shocker. It was a pretty good concept and I think in the right hands it would of turned out really well but the acting was atrocious. Even the people on day time soapies could act better then these people did. I should probably rephrase that to saying they could act better then the 'western' actors. It was as if the directors had found people on the street with no former training, given them the script 15 minutes before they shot the scene and told them to be over dramatic. A fine example of this was when Katie's mum (played by Linda Hamilton) was having a discussion with her husband (played by Beau Bridges). While Beau was speaking his lines you could see Linda's lips moving while she mouthed his words, either in an attempt to remember her lines or to help him with his. Another thing was the tantrums these people had. It was like watching a badly choreographed dance and the dancers concentrating so hard they ended up completely out of time!
I did watch the whole movie though and I give it four stars mainly for the concept and the fact it kept me intrigued enough to watch it to the end, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Even if they had very bad taste in movies.
