Movie reviews by RavenLast Train to Freo review

(A review of Last Train to Freo)Makes you not want to take a train ride by yourself on the last train when the guards aren't around. Don't know what I was expecting but I enjoyed it especially with how it was done. Felt to me like they went through every character and the situation was seen from all perspectives not just one. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Black Dahlia review
Posted : 11 months, 2 weeks ago on 27 October 2007 02:32
(A review of Black Dahlia)Not to be confused with The Black Dahlia directed by Brian De Palma although this idea is taken from The Black Dahlia murder. Black Dahlia is about 3 copycat killers recreating the Black Dahlia murder. Sounds like it could be something worth watching but you know when you start watching a movie and within the first 5 - 10 minutes you'll know if it's a waste of your time? Well that's what happened here. For starters I wasn't impressed enough to want to see what followed and for me the beginning made me think of some sort of fetish/snuff porno and if I really wanted to watch that I would've gotten one of those rather then getting a horror movie and expecting a horror movie. I'm sure there was plenty of horror to follow after that but I didn't continue watching to find out. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Nacho Libre review
Posted : 11 months, 3 weeks ago on 24 October 2007 01:06
(A review of Nacho Libre)I was surprised with this film. I was expecting something so stupid it would not make me laugh and wish I hadn't of spent my precious energy on it. Turned out to be the opposite. I actually laughed. Not only that it was a good quaint film although I think that if it wasn't for Jack Black's antics and facials it wouldn't have been as good. Don't get me wrong, the other characters added something to it, especially Jimenez, but still Black helped it along. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Candy review
Posted : 11 months, 3 weeks ago on 24 October 2007 12:48
(A review of Candy)Candy is basically a love story tainted by drugs. If you want to know why you shouldn't shoot up watch this. I think it was done really well especially with the three stages, Heaven, Earth & Hell. Ledger did a great performance through out and Cornish, well I was unsure about her in the beginning but I felt she progressed as the movie did and turned out to do a good performance in the end. Also I found myself wondering at the end why didn't this film get more publicity? 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Are We There Yet? review

(A review of Are We There Yet?)It's true that stupidity comes in all forms including movies and this is stupidity at it's greatest. Fair enough that the movie has some sort of moral lesson but how are you supposed to learn what it is when you can't even sit through it? If you really must watch this I recommend not paying for it, watch it when it's on telly and perhaps go out and get yourself concussed first. It might help. 1 comments, Reply to this entry
Stranger Than Fiction review
Posted : 11 months, 3 weeks ago on 22 October 2007 05:06
(A review of Stranger Than Fiction)It's strange alright. It's been a few hours since I've watched it and I still can't figure out what to make of it (not as in confusion, just unsure how it made me feel). It's not that I didn't enjoy it but I think a part of me feels that not only was it pointless but at times that it was almost silly. In saying that, I'd still recommend it. I've also come to expect Will Ferrell to do a certain quality of movie. Namely stupid, yet laughable, but on the verge of sheer annoyance & not being funny at the same time. If that's what you're expecting from this film you'll be extremely surprised. It's nothing like that, in fact I wouldn't even call it a straight out comedy as such but more of a black comedy/drama. Another thing is how it's expected of the main character to die for a book. For a book. I found that a bit ludicrous actually. The acting was pretty well done though and I have to say I'm not going to forget the movie any time soon even if I'm still unsure about it. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Sunshine review

(A review of Sunshine)Fantastic. I've been hanging out to see this movie and now that I finally have I'm far from disappointed. Great cast and acting, good visual effects and I loved the ending. I think this is one I'm definitely adding to my DVD collection. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Garage Days review

(A review of Garage Days)A great soundtrack, cinematography was alright and the story line was ok but it didn't do anything for me. The characters didn't do anything for me either and as a matter of fact I'm now left with the belief that Pia Miranda can't really act and is on the annoying side. I also felt all the attempts at humour weren't successful and that the only mildly amusing part of the film was the Fun With Drugs Part 2 and even that was pushing it. Shame really because it had potential as a story. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
13 Going on 30 review
Posted : 1 year ago on 22 September 2007 01:07
(A review of 13 Going on 30)I'm feeling some deja vu here except with a woman rather then a man. When Tom Hanks did this with Big, it could actually be funny at times and Tom Hanks pulled it off. With Jennifer Garner it was just embarrassing and completely unbelievable. Watching her trying to act like a 13 year old inside a 30 year olds body was beyond aggravating. Basically, it's been done before and it shouldn't have been done again. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Kenny review
Posted : 1 year ago on 19 September 2007 11:35
(A review of Kenny)For a movie I wasn't planning on watching I'm very glad Kenny was on television because I love it. Not so much the movie although it was great but more so the character. The combination of lisping, ockerisms and caring nature make Kenny a lovable Aussie bloke right from the word go. Kenny is a mockumentary about the plumbers who work with port-a-loos. Shane Jacobson did Kenny so well it's almost as if Kenny was his own person, he also pretty much worked with the port-a-loo company for over a year and the fact that the 'actors' were family and friends gave it a feeling of being a true documentary. It also had a lot of heart, not cheese, which made it even better to watch. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
