Movie reviews by MidnightKoma review

(A review of Koma)I am going to attempt to write some sort of review without giving anything away so here goes... I thought this was a great little film. I have read in a few places that it wasn't all that good and to be honest I have no idea what those people are on about it. It's possible that they assumed this was some sort of horror movie. It isn't. So if that's what you're expecting you will be disappointed. Yes it is rated R and so it should be although it's not exactly gory just violent in parts. I thought it was very well done with only bits of information being given as it goes a long. There was one scene that lead me to think this could become predictable but I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect the outcome. Or more like I did expect a part of that outcome but not how it got there or how it ended up. That probably makes no sense but that's the only way I can put it without spoiling it. So basically a great little film with violence, twists, mystery, some suspense and, well, high heels... 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Jay & Silent Bob Review
Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 December 2007 05:02
(A review of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)A stupid movie which was slightly entertaining for it's stupidity and really only it's stupidity. Also a movie I wouldn't pay to watch and would only ever watch if it was on television, late at night and I was bored. Jay (Mewes) was a bit entertaining because he was such a moron but the best performance out of the whole movie in my opinion was Chris Rock and he wasn't on for long. This is the first Jay & Silent Bob movie I have watched (that's if you don't count Clerks & Dogma I'm pretty sure I have watched but I hardly remember it) and because of it I'm not really interested to watch any others (unless of course it's late at night and there is nothing but one of those movies on telly again...). 1 comments, Reply to this entry
At World's End Review
Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 December 2007 04:27
(A review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End)Five hours after I've finished watching this I'm still trying to decide if I actually like it. Sure there is plenty of action, special effects, attempts at humour (which I didn't really find funny) but after all that I still don't know. Which probably means something right there. I was disappointed with the second one in the series and this I can say for sure was better then the second, I wasn't disappointed but I felt it was far too long and by one of the final battle scenes I was a tad bored. Although probably mainly for the fact that that battle scene was so drawn out it became tedious. Does Hollywood seem to think just because they have a lot of action, explosions and lots of pointless running about that we'll be entertained like a pack of morons? Pack a battle scene with so much chaos and confusion and perhaps we'll be so disorientated by the end of it we won't know if it was good or bad. There's also the fact that half way through I walked away from the movie to do something, was gone for about 10 minutes and by the time I came back I'd forgotten most of what had happened. I think for me the best part out of the whole movie was when Sparrow (Depp) was on his ship in the middle of no where and the stone appeared (if you've seen it you'll know what I mean), after that it just went a bit downhill... And after ripping into it I realise I didn't dislike it so I guess I have to go with a 5 rating wise for the sheer fact that I can't decide if it was good, bad or neither. I do know however that if you are a Depp fan you'll be entertained enough to want to watch the whole thing. 1 comments, Reply to this entry
Firestarter review
Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 3 December 2007 04:23
(A review of Firestarter)I'm actually surprised with how much they stuck to the story line in this novel adaption. It was also comical when ever Charlie (Barrymore) or her father used their abilities. You could 'see' the effects from it ie; Charlie's hair blowing around and the father having to hold the side of his head. Quite amusing it was, but that's what you get for a 1980's movie. I'd recommend it mostly for people who like cheesy, tacky thrillers if thriller is really the word for it. 0 comments, Reply to this entry

(A review of A Little Trip to Heaven)Forest Whitaker did an excellent performance as usual and although the movie had a good storyline, some good little twists and the ending was excellent and unexpected, It didn't really do a great deal for me. I felt pretty neutral throughout the whole thing. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
The Devil Wears Prada review
Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 3 December 2007 04:12
(A review of The Devil Wears Prada)Not bad for a time filler. Other then that it felt to me as if it was just a little too drawn out and it tries to be comedic at times but just doesn't touch the funny bone at all. Thin & dull are the words that come to mind. Although it might be entertaining for girly girls having a girls night in and wanting something to watch that doesn't take any effort to follow or matter if you miss some of it. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Transformers review
Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 3 December 2007 03:40
(A review of Transformers)I've been a bit wary with this fad to turn all my favourite childhood television shows/comics into movies so I must admit I was putting off watching this just to save being disappointed. Now that I've finally watched it I wish I had of watched it sooner! I loved it right from the word go. One of those movies that I would of preferred to see on the big screen, but still fantastic. Lots of great action to hide the substandard acting and lack of dialogue (don't need much riveting dialogue in a movie like this though). Only one thing really annoyed me. It was the attempts at humour which ended up being not particularly funny and slightly embarrassing. It's when they weren't trying so hard that I found myself having a little chuckle. Other then that excellent for a highly polished action packed movie. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Borat Review
Posted : 8 months, 4 weeks ago on 2 December 2007 05:18
(A review of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan)Not as funny as I thought it would be, actually I found it to be a bit drawn out, but there were still some scenes that were, well not quite but more or less, bordering on hilarious. It is one of those movies where you really need a sense of humour, be very open minded and not mind a bit of stupidity (and a fair bit of nudity) to watch it without being offended. So basically if you aren't open minded then there's no need to watch this because it is crude. Don't even bother contemplating it. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
The Wooden Camera

(A review of The Wooden Camera)Predictable. Such a shame really but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad film. Just not surprising. Actually it entertained me enough to watch the whole thing and I have to admit I wasn't completely sure how it would turn out. I think that was mainly because I didn't expect them to do what they did, seeing as the characters were so young. The acting however was on the mediocre side although Junior Singo (Madiba) was adorable so I guess that made up for the very annoying and bad acting from Dana de Agrella (Estelle). I do feel that this movie could have gone in a different direction and possibly a better one (a less predictable one anyway) but like I mentioned before. That doesn't necessarily make it a bad film. I should also add that just because this movie is South African doesn't mean it's not in English. So basically there are no subtitles to read for all the anti subtitle viewers. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Jackass Number Two review
Posted : 10 months ago on 31 October 2007 04:42
(A review of Jackass Number Two)You’ll know without even watching this movie if you’ll enjoy it. If you don’t like rough housing or pranks well obviously you wouldn’t waste your time, but if on the other hand you find watching a bunch of guys deliberately hurting themselves and laughing their arses off about it amusing then watching it wouldn’t hurt. Or would it? A whole bunch of larrikinism in this one. At least one thing (or perhaps two) to make you cringe and one to possibly make you laugh so hard you hurt yourself. I know I did. It doesn’t help that the boys laughter is so infectious. Unfortunately I can’t really remember the first one enough to tell which is better but why should that matter? It’s not really a movie so to speak but just a movie length of Jackass. Enough said 0 comments, Reply to this entry
