The Secret Life Of Happy People review
Posted : 6 months, 1 week ago on 18 January 2008 06:47
(A review of The Secret Life Of Happy People)Interesting film. From early on you just know there is something sinister going on and then you find out and I think it was the cruelty of it that kept me watching the whole thing. It was a good movie even if there was nothing remarkable about the acting, it was mainly the story line. By the end of the movie it just seems like everyone is getting screwed over and then there is the ending. I didn't mind it but I think it would've been fine if it had of finished at a certain point without that extra part but still not a bad movie. Interesting.

The Limey review
Posted : 6 months, 1 week ago on 13 January 2008 10:42
(A review of The Limey)I found this difficult to watch and if it wasn't on so late I still wouldn't have wanted to watch the whole thing. It was nauseating because the time line was all over the place. Not that it was hard to follow but it gets a bit much when it's jumping from present to past to future and to any one of those again for no real reason, even being in present tense while jumping to past and present, then not only playing scenes over again but also playing it from different angles. As if trying to be a cool artsy movie but just being nauseating instead.
Mind you if it hadn't of been nauseating I still wouldn't cared to have watched it to the end seeing as it's a guy whose daughter dies and he basically goes to get revenge. Not exactly original and not exactly riveting.

I Am Legend review
Posted : 6 months, 2 weeks ago on 9 January 2008 03:14
(A review of I Am Legend)If literature was food then this would be the starving persons feast, well for me it would be anyway because I devoured this and like all great books you enjoy it was over far too quickly (understandably, seeing as it's a novella) and yet if it went on any longer I don't think it would have been anywhere near the same.
There's an introduction by Stephen King (at least in my copy) with a line that I found to be very true "he will leave you wanting more" and if you watch the movie, do yourself a favour and read the book because in my opinion a movie could not do justice to this book especially with that ending.

A Perplexing Read
Posted : 6 months, 2 weeks ago on 6 January 2008 11:54
(A review of The Castle (Penguin Modern Classics))I feel like I've been reading this book for 6 months when in actual fact it has been just under a month and after much struggling and determination I just can't keep reading it anymore and yet a part of me wants to keep reading it even though it's a torment. I feel as though if I stop reading I'm letting myself down and missing something. Perhaps it's because I want to know what's so good about Kafka. Why do I always seem to hear Kafka praised and nothing badly said about his writing? I have no idea, especially after reading this. I won't go as far as to say this was a waste of my time or a bad read it's just after reading 250 pages you'd like there to be some sort of point reached or what seems like a way to the point being made but I didn't feel like that. The characters are all mental and I felt that they were all just going around in cirlces. Then there's the dialogue. These are the longest conversations about the same thing said in a different way every few lines that I have ever read. Torment is the word for it and torment isn't the reason I read.

Black Sheep review
Posted : 6 months, 3 weeks ago on 4 January 2008 10:49
(A review of Black Sheep)I'd like to talk to the person who came up with this idea and find out what they were smoking. A story about a mutant lamb getting loose and infecting all the sheep. Not something you see every day and considering this was made in New Zealand I thought why not watch it, it's bound to be utterly stupid, funny or both. Nothing to loose!
Well it was funny to a point and it had plenty of fake blood, gore, stupid dialogue and crazy bloodthirsty sheep... Lots of crazy sheep. Oh and flatulance believe it or not.
Might help to smoke what the mastermind behind this was smoking.

TMNT review
Posted : 6 months, 3 weeks ago on 4 January 2008 06:11
(A review of TMNT)I loved this and I can't decide if it's because of it being a good movie or just because I loved the turtles as a kid, possibly the latter. Like the saying goes, love is blind.
Seriously though it was really good. Animation was excellent, I enjoyed the story and it was just the right length of time too. Plus I didn't dislike April in this either which is a big thing for me because in the original turtles she annoyed me beyond belief.
Also I think that if kids these days like the turtles then I'm sure they'll enjoy this movie (that's going by my nephew's reaction). Now I just hope they make another one because I know that would please my inner child greatly...

Disturbia review
Posted : 6 months, 3 weeks ago on 4 January 2008 12:40
(A review of Disturbia)This was a good movie. Not brilliant. Not mind blowing. Not particularly special but good.
For a thriller it took a long time for the "thrill" to occur and when it finally did occur it was unfortunately short lived. However I thought David Morse as the "bad guy" was a good choice, Shia LaBeouf (I think perhaps his parents didn't like him when he was born) on the other hand.. Well I thought perhaps he wasn't a particularly great actor and maybe everyone loves him because he has done good movies (ie Tranformers) but now I think he is mediocre but could improve with some acting lessons. The acting wasn't exactly bad though but I feel this was just another polished movie geared towards a certain money spending audience and not for actual thriller lovers. A shame really when you are in the mood for a good thriller.

Stuck on You review
Posted : 6 months, 3 weeks ago on 3 January 2008 03:04
(A review of Stuck on You)I'd put off watching this movie as it looked utterly stupid to me but seeing as it was on television I thought why not and I was surprised. I actually found it not only bearable but enjoyable to an extent, even laughed in parts. Not bad for an enjoyable feel good movie with a bit of a laugh.

Pieces of April review
Posted : 6 months, 4 weeks ago on 28 December 2007 11:42
(A review of Pieces of April)This movie was such an effort for me to watch, it was exhausting. A movie that is that exhausting to watch from beginning to end isn't worth it in my book and neither the acting, storyline or cinematography made up for it. What slightly did though was the ending. After such a chaotic exhausting story it had a nice ending but that was about it.

Hogfather review
Posted : 7 months ago on 25 December 2007 04:49
(A review of Hogfather)I really enjoyed this. A dark quirky fantasy with a twist to Christmas being Santa is some sort of Hog man. I also loved Death and the serious character of Suzanne. I haven't been able to read Terry Pratchett's Discworld so can't say if it was adapted appropriately but after watching this mini series I know I want to read his work more so then before. A good little fantasy that I think Harry Potter fans could be happy with and anyone who wants something different then the usual Christmas fanfare
